第 1 页 共 4 页

On a Sunday morning, I was driving down a road and saw something I couldn’t believe. A little girl, less than two, was pushing her stroller (婴儿车) across the road. It was Sunday morning and traffic was not heavy. I stopped my car at once and ran toward her. This little girl knew enough to run from a stranger. I tried to catch her in order that I could get her out of the road. Suddenly her father came running down a hill across the road from where I had parked my car. He ran right to her and caught her up, saying “bad girl” to her. I picked up the stroller and gave it to him. The father grabbed the stroller and walked toward where he came from without a word. I went back and sat in my car for a few minutes with my son. My hands were shaking and tears were about to run out of my eyes. “Do you feel cold, Mom?” asked my son. I just shook my head. After this happened, I thought about how thankful I am. Even though the father didn’t say thank you, I feel that I did something good. Doing something for someone else is pleasing, even when it’s only a matter of being in the right place at the right time. I didn’t really “save” her, but I feel like it was important that I happened to be there. It is sad that I was the only one who stopped. It really made me a little disappointed that no one else stopped to help. 21. When the author saw the little girl, _____. A. the girl had lost her way B. she was driving to work in a hurry C. there weren’t many cars on the road D. the girl feared to go across the road 22. The little girl ran away from the author because _____. A. she wanted to stay on the road B. she needed to catch her stroller C. she wanted to look for her father D. she didn’t know the author at all 23. Why were the author’s hands shaking? A. Because she failed to be understood by the girl’s father. B. Because she was too excited to keep calm. C. Because the weather was very cold at that time. D. Because she was not feeling well. 24. What can we learn from the passage? A. The girl’s father didn’t like the girl at all. B. The author felt sad that no one else helped the girl. C. The author shared her experience with her son. D. The girl’s father had wanted to thank the author. B Honey from the African forest is not only a kind of natural sugar, it is also delicious. Most people, and many animals, like eating it. However, the only way for them to get that honey is to find a wild bees' nest and take the honey from it. Often, these nests are high up in trees, and it is difficult to find them. In parts of Africa, though, people and animals looking for honey have a strange and unexpected helper - a little bird called a honey guide. The honey guide does not actually like honey, but it does like the wax in the beehives (蜂房). The little bird cannot reach this wax, which is deep inside the bees' nest. So, when it finds a suitable nest, it looks for someone to help it. The honey guide gives a loud cry that attracts the attention of both passing animals and people. Once it has their attention, it flies through the forest, waiting from time to time for the curious animal or person as it leads them to the nest. When they finally arrive at the nest, the follower reaches in to get at the delicious honey as the bird patiently waits and watches. Some of the honey, and the wax, always falls to the ground, and this is when the honey guide takes

its share. Scientists do not know why the honey guide likes eating the wax, but it is very determined in its efforts to get it. The birds seem to be able to smell wax from a long distance away. They will quickly arrive whenever a beekeeper is taking honey from his beehives, and will even enter churches when beeswax candles are being lit. 25. Why is it difficult to find a wild bees' nest? A. It's hidden in trees. B. It's small in size. C. It's covered with wax. D. It's hard to recognize. 26. What do the words "the follower" in Paragraph 2 refer to? A. A bee. B. A bird. C. A beekeeper. D. A honey seeker. 27. The honey guide is special in the way . A. it goes to church B. it gets its food C. it sings in the forest D. it reaches into bees' nests 28. What can be the best title for the text? A. Wild Bees B. Honey-Lover's Helper C. Beekeeping in Africa D. Wax and Honey C One day a few years ago a very funny thing happened to a neighbor of mine. In class, she asked for a desk that was closer to the blackboard. One day, her teacher said, “Carmen, I’ve noticed

you squinting a lot. Are you having trouble seeing the board?” Carmen shook her head. “I’m fine, Mrs. Cruz.” At home, she had to sit closer and closer to the television. Her mother noticed her squinting as she watched her favorite shows. “Tomorrow I will go to see a doctor,” she said firmly. Three days later, Carmen had new glasses. She was told to wear them all the time. “All of the kids at school will think I’m a nerd (书呆子),” she said. “You look just as beautiful with those glasses on as you do without them,” her mother said. But Carmen didn’t believe her. The next day, Carmen kept the glasses in her pocket as she walked into the schoolyard. Suddenly, she heard her friend Theresa shout. “What’s wrong?” she asked. “My silver ring is gone!” Theresa cried. Carmen could tell that Theresa was very upset. They all looked for the ring in the grassy area of the playground. Carmen realized that she could search better if she could see better. She took the glasses out of her pocket and put them on. Everything looked so different! So clear! And a glimmer (微光) of silver caught her eye. “Here it is,” she shouted. “Thanks Carmen,” Theresa said. “I didn’t know you wore glasses.
