Background Information Surviving the First Date
Most westerners begin dating in their early teenage years. After dating a number of different partners, many teenagers begin “going out with” or “seeing” one special person at about 16 or 17. Preparing for a first date can be quite nerve-wracking, even for the most mature of individuals. The key is to take it easy and decide that you are going to have a good time no matter what happens. According to relationship experts, the best way to keep your date attracted to you is to always have them identify you with the idea of excitement. Don’t be afraid to show a little spontaneity (自发性) by suggesting that you take a walk in the park or explore a new attraction after your date.

E-mail E-mail is a new way of communication for many people. It is a means of “meeting” people with similar interests or problems. E-mailers “write” letters on their computers then send them through their telephone line to an online computer far away. E-mail addresses — either names or numbers — automatically send mails to the right locations. E-mailing is not a real conversation, but compared with the U.S. “slow mail”, which Americans call their mail service, it is much faster. Reply can be back at once or within hours, depending on how often the receiver checks his computer.
